PROSPECTS of rescue for the two passengers hurled into the Lagos lagoon from a speedy bus, yesterday, is dampened.

Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, said “amidst the tragic accident that unfolded Wednesday, it is casting a shadow of despair over hopeful rescuers.”

He delivered somber news as the fate of two passengers, flung into the depths of the Lagos lagoon, hung in the balance.

The calamity struck near the Adeniyi Adele axis towards Lagos Island on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Witnesses also watched in horror as the driver lost control of the vehicle, careening into the bridge railings and hurling the unfortunate passengers into the churning waters below.

Despite valiant efforts by emergency responders, including personnel from NEMA and the Nigerian Police Marine Corps, the search for the missing passengers has shifted from rescue to recovery,

Farinloye noted that the treacherous currents and the extended time since the accident have dimmed hopes of their survival.
