RIVERS State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has emphasized the significance of the newly launched health insurance scheme in the state.

Known as the Contributory Health Insurance Protection Programme (CHIPP), the governor said it is set up as a fundamental right for all citizens to access quality healthcare services.

Addressing the managers of the newly launched health scheme during the inauguration ceremony of the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni local government, Governor Fubara urged them to execute their responsibilities diligently and without discrimination among users.

The announcement was made by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Fubara, Nelson Chukwudi, on Monday.

Underscoring the importance of CHIPP in providing financial protection against healthcare costs and addressing inequality in service provision, the governor emphasized that it is the cornerstone of the state’s healthcare system.

As beneficiaries of the scheme themselves, the governor and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, emphasized that the primary goal of CHIPP is to ensure inclusive and equitable healthcare access for all residents of the state.

Dr. Vetty Agala, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Rivers State CHIPP, disclosed after the flag-off that the team will enroll natives from all 317 political wards in the 23 local government areas of the state.

The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme Bill, which was signed into law on June 21, 2021, is now being implemented following the governor’s review, describing it as an initiative that reflects the commitment of the Fubara’s administration towards improving the health status of residents.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has encouraged his political rival, stressed the integrity of his administration and expressed gratitude for the support of influential figures in the state.

Fubara also acknowledged the significance of former Governor Peter Odili’s contribution to the community and highlighted the importance of self-worth and preservation of greatness.

He underscores his government’s commitment to healthcare accessibility and equity, as well as its dedication to upholding integrity and recognizing the contributions of others to community development.
