OGUN State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced plans to implement a policy ensuring the road worthiness of truck heads transporting gas within the state.

His decision follows the recent explosion incident in the state and aims to enhance safety procedures and standards for gas transportation.

During a courtesy visit by the Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo, the government emphasized the need for stringent measures, including quality control of gas cylinders used by trucks, highlighting the state’s significant industrial presence and extensive use of gas, making safety regulations imperative.

Abiodun revealed steps taken in response to the explosion, including a shutdown of the involved company for safety audits and ongoing investigations, stressing the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future through comprehensive safety measures.

Acknowledging the support from the federal government, Abiodun assured collaboration to determine the cause of the explosion and support affected individuals and businesses.

In his remarks, Minister Ekpo expressed solidarity with the affected families and emphasized the continued importance of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) initiative for economic development, and pledged efforts to address infrastructure challenges and enhance gas transportation safety.

At Gasco Marine, where the explosion occurred, Managing Director, Oluwasegun Ogunwunmi, lamented the incident, highlighting the company’s adherence to safety standards and regular training of drivers. He affirmed the company’s commitment to maintaining top-notch facilities to prevent future mishaps.

The minister noted that their visit pinpoints the commitment of both federal and state authorities to ensuring safety and regulation of the gas industry prioritizing public welfare and security.
