THE SENATE has shifted the screening and confirmation of seven recently appointed ministerial nominees to Wednesday, October 30.

This is to allow the nominees additional time to finalize required documentation.

The postponement, initially scheduled for Tuesday, was announced by Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters,

Lado disclosed this in a statement highlighting the need for the nominees to complete all pre-screening formalities.

President Bola Tinubu recently reshuffled his cabinet, dismissing five ministers and proposing seven new candidates, now awaiting Senate approval.

Among the nominees, Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu has been appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, while Dr. Jumoke Oduwole is assigned to the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

Additionally, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda has been named to lead the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, succeeding the suspended Betta Edu.

Other nominees include Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment and Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development.

Completing the lineup, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata has been nominated as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad is set to assume the role of Minister of State for Education.

Lado also said the appointments are part of Tinubu’s strategy to address key national issues, with a focus on sectors critical to Nigeria’s growth and stability.

He adds that the Senate is expected to conduct the screening in line with Section 147 of the Nigerian Constitution, which mandates legislative confirmation of ministerial appointments.

On the delay, Lado said it underscores the government’s intent to ensure due diligence in the documentation process, reaffirming its commitment to proper vetting of cabinet members tasked with addressing pressing national concerns.
