BROAD POLITICAL support for President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has been described by Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo as an unusual level of consensus in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Reporting on the event, JKNewsMedia.com writes that Soludo made the remarks at the inauguration in Abuja on Wednesday, 14 October, pointing to the participation of governors and political stakeholders from different party backgrounds as evidence of a broad political alignment behind the President.
The governor, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was rooted in shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.
Soludo also highlighted the participation of approximately 31 state governors at the gathering, describing it as an unusually broad show of political support.
However, the participation did not necessarily amount to a formal endorsement by every governor or Nigerian voter.
The former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor also defended the economic philosophy behind the Tinubu administration’s policies, describing its approach as “pragmatic progressivism”.
Drawing on his background as an economist, Soludo said the President’s decisions reflected a willingness to confront structural economic challenges rather than defer difficult policy choices.
According to statement issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Soludo’s intervention placed economic policy and institutional performance at the centre of discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election.

The forum further emphasised the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information about public-sector performance.
Stressing his points further, Soludo argued that the administration inherited an economy under significant pressure and had introduced reforms aimed at moving the country from instability towards recovery and sustainable prosperity.
He then credited Tinubu’s understanding of public finance with shaping the direction of the reforms, arguing that the President’s decisions should be assessed against the structural economic problems confronting Nigeria before and after he assumed office.
While supporters of the administration have cited macroeconomic adjustments and reform initiatives as signs of progress, critics have questioned how quickly the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.
Soludo maintained that the administration’s approach demonstrated a commitment to tackling long-standing economic challenges and establishing a foundation for future growth.
In its closing remarks, FORCEPA noted that it deems Soludo’s appearance at the APC campaign council inauguration as highlighting a political cooperation across party lines, given his continued membership of APGA.
