MORE STUDENTS benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) in the South-West than in any other geopolitical zone, with 308,998 beneficiaries, according to the latest data released by the agency.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the figures compiled by NELFUND showed that North-Central followed with 290,102 beneficiaries, while North-West recorded 284,446 students supported under the scheme.
Also, the data showed that North-East had 237,214 beneficiaries, followed by South-South with 167,251, while South-East recorded the lowest figure among the six geopolitical zones with 120,924 students supported.
The NELFUND breakdown also showed that South-West remained ahead of the other geopolitical zones in accessing the federal student loan scheme established to provide financial support to Nigerian students in tertiary institutions.
NELFUND said it has continued to disburse loans to eligible students across higher institutions across the country since the commencement of the scheme as part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve access to tertiary education financing nationwide.
