Steps for Federal Institution Students to Process the Students Loan Scheme

THE NIGERIAN Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). Akintunde Sawyerr, CEO/NELFUND, has provided details regarding the conditions that applicants must meet to qualify for the loans.

Speaking on Monday, May 20, he said the bill, signed into law on April by President Bola Tinubu was to ensure that no Nigerian student is forced to drop out of school on the excuse of financial difficulties.

He disclosed that applying for a student loan through NELFUND involves several steps and requires careful preparation to navigate the process efficiently and provided detailed guide to intending students via the NELFUND platform.

To begin with, Sawyerr advised students to access the NELFUND website via

  • www.nelf.gov.ng
  • Locate the student loan application portal
  • Account Creation or Login to create a new account -for a first-time user, or log in if you already have an account.
  • Save your application progress and return to it as needed.
  • Document Submission – Gather and submit necessary documents, which typically include proof of identity, verification of academic status, and evidence of financial need which are essential for confirming your eligibility for the loan.
  • Application Form Completion: Fill in your detailed personal information (such as your name, contact information, and date of birth), academic details (including your course of study, institution, and level of study), and financial information (covering your income, expenses, and any other sources of funding).
  • Application Review: Carefully review the completed application form to check for any errors or omissions by ensuring that all required documents are attached before submission…and lastly,
  • Submit Application: After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation email from NELFUND that will provide further instructions, which may include requests for additional documentation or scheduling an interview.

Sawyerr urged the intending applicants that it is important to follow these instructions promptly to facilitate the processing of their application.

He also noted that it is by following these detailed steps that applicants can effectively navigate the NELFUND loan application process and improve their chances of securing the necessary financial assistance for their education.
