The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has listed its 2025 intervention disbursement plan, earmarking substantial financial support for public tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

During a strategic workshop in Abuja on Thursday, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Arch. Sonny Echono, detailed the allocations, specifying that universities will receive N2.8 billion each, polytechnics will be allocated N1.9 billion, and Colleges of Education will obtain N2.1 billion.

The funding aims to drive infrastructure development, research, and innovation across these institutions.

Echono elaborated that universities are set to receive N2,860,562,352.66 each, inclusive of N300 million for zonal allocations, while polytechnics will obtain N1,994,335,731.71 and Colleges of Education N2,178,428,260.79, all incorporating zonal distributions.

He urged institutional heads to ensure the judicious use of previous allocations to facilitate timely access to the new disbursements.

Additionally, he highlighted that the 2025 allocation would prioritise infrastructure upgrades, student startup grants, and the establishment of agricultural laboratories.

NELFUND Grants Disbursements to 261,000

In a related development, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disclosed that it has disbursed approximately N33 billion to 261,000 students across Nigeria.

NELFUND Managing Director, Mr Akintunde Sawyer, made this announcement at a sensitisation programme in Edo North Senatorial District, hosted at Edo University, Iyamho, in Etsako West Local Government Area.

Sawyer specified that over N22 billion of the disbursed funds were allocated for institutional fees, while around N11 billion was directed towards students’ monthly upkeep.

Providing further insight, Sawyer noted that NELFUND has received 520,000 registrations and processed 419,000 applications, ensuring that eligible students continue to benefit from the financial support.

He reassured stakeholders that the agency remains well-funded, with backing from both statutory allocations and non-governmental sources.

“So far, we are very well funded. The political will demonstrated by Mr President to allow us access to funds beyond statutory allocations is highly commendable,” Sawyer stated.

He further explained that contributions from NGOs and individuals are now bolstering NELFUND, enabling it to fulfill its mission of supporting Nigerian students.
