PRESIDENT BOLA Tinubu has accused opposition leaders of creating the hunger and poverty they now cite against his administration, as he launched his campaign for the 2027 general elections in Kaduna and inaugurated an 81-kilometre section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that speaking at a well-attended rally at Ranchers Bees Stadium on Saturday, Tinubu defended his administration’s efforts to tackle economic hardship, insisting that his government was working to eradicate the problems raised by his political opponents.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on 24 October 2026; notes that his remarks appeared directed at African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, who served as vice-president between 1999 and 2007.
During that period, many state-owned businesses were privatised without the payment of gratuities and pensions to thousands of workers who lost their jobs. Tinubu’s administration has been paying those workers.
The President used the Kaduna rally to highlight infrastructure development, formally inaugurating the 81-kilometre section of the Abuja-Kaduna highway through a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Recalling Kaduna’s historical significance as a city of leaders and the political headquarters of northern Nigeria, Tinubu said his administration had continued to pursue efforts to eradicate poverty across the country.
He thanked Kaduna State residents for giving him their mandate in the 2023 elections and urged them to support his re-election bid in 2027.
He pointed to his administration’s achievements and investments in critical economic infrastructure across Kaduna State and the wider northern region as reasons for voters to renew his mandate.
The campaign flag-off attracted senior All Progressives Congress leaders, including the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Vice-President Kashim Shettima,
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the Vice-President, 32 APC governors, former APC National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu, former governor Abdullahi Ganduje and other party leaders.
Shettima reaffirmed Tinubu’s commitment to national unity, democratic stability and economic development, urging Nigerians to support the administration’s continued implementation of its programmes.
The Vice-President recalled Tinubu’s support for northern presidential candidates in previous elections, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, who won the 2015 and 2019 presidential contests.
He also cited Tinubu’s support for northern political leaders during earlier presidential campaigns, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing the relationships as evidence of political loyalty, mutual respect and commitment to national unity.
Shettima maintained that such political relationships had strengthened the APC and reinforced the importance of collective efforts towards building a united and prosperous country.
He urged party members and supporters to sustain their backing for Tinubu as the APC seeks another mandate to continue its national development programmes.
“We won the last election because you saw the best option before you. For the good people of Kaduna State, we have seen why you stood with us within the mandate of the APC, a mandate to redeem the fortune of this great state. This wisdom has made Kaduna State a unified place,” Shettima said.
Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, in his welcome address, commended Tinubu for supporting state governments in implementing development programmes and pursuing their respective priorities.
He stressed that cooperation between the Federal Government and state administrations remained essential to sustainable development, particularly in infrastructure, agriculture and initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ welfare.
The governor also acknowledged the contributions of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to the welfare of women, children and families, describing the interventions as an important component of national development.
Sani urged APC supporters to remain alert to misinformation during the electioneering period, particularly misleading materials circulating on social media and content allegedly generated using artificial intelligence.
The Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, expressed confidence in the party’s capacity to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yari commended Sani, party leaders and other stakeholders for their collective efforts in organising the campaign flag-off, describing their participation as evidence of the party’s commitment to its political objectives.
He also defended the administration’s economic reforms, citing developments in the foreign exchange market, and urged Nigerians to assess the government based on its policies and performance.
The former Zamfara State governor called on party supporters to guard against misinformation, expressing confidence in the APC’s political organisation, its experience in previous elections and its track record.
JKNewsMedia.com also reports that addressing the gathering during the virtual commissioning of Lot 1, covering 81 kilometres of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway, the Minister of Works, Engineer Dave Umahi, outlined infrastructure projects the Tinubu administration was undertaking across the North-West and other parts of the country.
The campaign flag-off combined Tinubu’s defence of his administration’s handling of poverty and hunger with appeals for political continuity, party unity and support for ongoing infrastructure development ahead of the 2027 general elections.
