PRESIDENT BOLA Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.

This strategic appointment aligns with the administration’s commitment to enhancing educational standards and institutional governance across Nigeria.

In addition to Bishop Kukah, the President named key officials to lead the university’s administrative and academic functions.

Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas has been appointed Vice-Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu will serve as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat takes on the role of Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar assumes duties as the University Librarian.

Further strengthening the university’s leadership, President Tinubu approved the appointment of four distinguished individuals to the Governing Council.

Mr. Thomas Etuh will represent the North Central region, Chief Fabian Nwaora the Southeast, Prof. Femi Taiwo the South-west, and Zarah Bukar the Northeast. These appointments reflect a balance of regional representation and professional expertise, ensuring robust governance and strategic oversight.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, confirmed that all appointees were selected based on their exemplary careers, leadership experience, and commitment to advancing Nigeria’s educational sector.

President Tinubu charged the newly appointed officials with the responsibility of positioning the university as a centre of academic excellence and research, in alignment with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He emphasised the need for visionary leadership to establish a solid foundation for the institution as it prepares to admit its first cohort of students in September 2025.

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, underwent a name change following the federal government’s acquisition of its assets.

This transition aims to facilitate the institution’s integration into the national framework of higher education, ensuring adherence to global academic standards.
