FRESH LEADERSHIP has taken charge of Nigeria’s shift toward cleaner and cheaper energy alternatives as President Bola Tinubu appoints Barrister Ismael Ahmed as Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi).
Tasked with steering the operations of the flagship energy initiative, Ahmed is expected to implement measures aimed at softening the impact of petrol subsidy removal.
The PCNGi forms a central pillar of the administration’s palliative efforts, offering Nigerians cost-effective and environmentally friendly energy options.
A trained lawyer and policy strategist, Ahmed brings a blend of legal expertise and diplomatic insight to his new role.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Abuja, graduating in 2005, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 after completing training at the Nigerian Law School in Abuja.
His academic pursuits continued at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he obtained a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy in 2008.
Ahmed previously served as senior special assistant on the National Social Investment Programme under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2018 to 2022.
His appointment to the PCNGi is seen as a continuation of federal efforts to leverage experienced hands for the country’s social and economic transformation.
