STEADY OPERATIONS in Ogoniland have been officially re-affirmed as President Bola Tinubu declared the re-entry a historic turning point for Nigeria, linking the development directly to his government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking during the presentation of the Ogoni Consultations Report at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, the President stated that the milestone reflects his administration’s commitment to building a stronger country, attracting responsible investment, and ensuring that community development remains at the heart of national progress.

The President also acknowledged the long years of hardship experienced by the Ogoni people, noting that the re-entry is the government’s recognition of those sacrifices.

“We are not, as a government, taking lightly the years of pain endured in Ogoniland. We recognise that, otherwise we would not be here today…We declare with conviction that hope is here and is back with us,” he said.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Engr. Bayo Ojulari, reiterated the President’s words, describing the re-entry as a re-affirmation of the company’s commitment to the Ogoni re-entry plan and a decisive step towards justice, healing, and national prosperity.

He said the milestone illustrates that Nigeria can confront its past, honour community sacrifices, and shape a future based on prosperity and fairness.

“The re-entry into Ogoniland is not just about oil and gas. It is about justice, healing, and charting a new future for our nation,” Ojulari stated.

According to NNPC Ltd, the re-entry demonstrates that national development can align with equity, environmental stewardship, and inclusive growth.

The company described the milestone as evidence of how the Renewed Hope Agenda translates into practical outcomes by strengthening the country, creating conditions for responsible investment, and prioritising the prosperity of host communities.

Ojulari highlighted the pivotal role of the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, in convening the committee that united diverse stakeholders to achieve consensus.

He also commended Professor Don Baridam and the Presidential Committee members for their extensive and transparent engagements, which resulted in a report reflecting fairness and inclusivity.

“The lesson is that this journey cannot be driven solely by production volumes. It must be anchored on justice, equity, sustainability, and most importantly, collaboration with the very people whose land bears this wealth,” he emphasised.

In outlining next steps, Ojulari confirmed that NNPC Ltd will prioritise trust-building through consistent engagement with stakeholders, targeted infrastructure investment, and support for local enterprises.

A statement signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd, Abuja and dated 26 September 2025, also reveals that the company has already commenced initiatives in road construction, infrastructure upgrades, and economic empowerment programmes to demonstrate accountability and inclusivity. “NNPC Ltd is determined to transform Ogoniland from a symbol of conflict into a beacon of reconciliation, renewal, and sustainable progress,” he added.

National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu reinforced that the Ogoni Consultations Report represents proof that sustainable progress is achievable through cooperation.

He described the report as the result of an intensive, transparent process that engaged all relevant parties.

Professor Baridam, on behalf of the Committee, expressed gratitude to the President for his commitment to the well-being of the Ogoni people, adding that diplomacy and insistence on dialogue were central to winning host community trust and restoring hope.

The release also noted that the re-entry carries a message beyond Nigeria’s borders, offering a model of how resource-rich nations can reconcile energy security with environmental protection.

By prioritising community benefit, the development demonstrates a framework in which oil and gas operations can align with local aspirations and environmental standards.

According to the statement, this renewed phase in Ogoniland symbolises Nigeria’s redefinition of progress as a partnership between government, industry, and the people.
