LATEST APPOINTMENTS across key education institutions have been approved by President Bola Tinubu, covering the National Examination Council (NEC), the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic in N’yak Shendam, Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria (NLN).
JKNewsMedia.com reports that a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, disclosed that Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of NEC, while the current Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, was retained.
The statement also adds that Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak Shendam, Plateau State, while the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director and Chief Executive of the NLN has been renewed.
For the NBTE, the President appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman, noting that on April 10, the incumbent Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M Bugaje, was stayed in office for a second and final term of five years.
Professor Adelabu was described as a retired Professor of Educational Administration who rose through the ranks to full professorship at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
She previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State from 2013 to 2014 and as Chairman of the NBTE between 2018 and 2021.
Professor Salako was described as a globally respected researcher with decades of experience in higher education, institutional governance and national policy leadership.
He served as Director General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, during which the institute recorded revitalisation, enhanced research governance, expanded international collaborations, and improved infrastructure and research outputs.
The statement noted that Engr. Dr Bongfa Binfa, from Plateau State, succeeds Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak Shendam, whose tenure expired on March 16, 2026.
It added that the President approved his appointment for a single term of five years following a public advertisement process in national dailies in September 2025.
Dr Binfa holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and had previously served as Deputy Rector Academic at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, and was also a Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.
Also, the statement stated that Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi, first appointed on September 2, 2021, will serve a final term of five years as Chief Executive of the NLNi, noting that since assuming office, she has led institutional reforms aimed at repositioning the national library as a modern technology driven knowledge institution, including the development and operationalisation of the National Repository of Nigeria (NRN), the Newspaper and Magazine Locator (NML), the Index and Abstract to Nigerian Newspapers (IANN), and the National Virtual Library of Nigeria (NVLN).
She also played a role in advancing the completion of the National Library Headquarters (NLH) project and initiated plans to migrate heritage collections from 34 state branches to the new headquarters in Abuja.
Expectedly, the President noted that the renewal of her tenure will ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the NLH project, and execution of the 2025 to 2030 Strategic Plan.
