SEQUEL to March 24 general elections in Senegal, Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu, in the wake of Bassirou Faye’s victory as president-elect, has extended his warm congratulations to the victor and his citizens.

In a statement issued by Tinubu’s spokesperson yesterday, Anjuri Ngelale, Nigeria’s president hailed the Senegalese election, citing Faye’s impressive credentials and promising potential.

He expressed confidence in Faye’s ability to lead Senegal effectively and wished him success in his new role.

Tinubu also commended the outgoing President Macky Sall for his role in ensuring the peaceful and transparent conduct of the election, underscoring the importance of such democratic processes in West Africa.

President Tinubu also commended Sally for overseeing an election that has been widely adjudged as peaceful and transparent. Reflecting on the broader implications of Senegal’s election, Nigeria’s president emphasized the growing embrace of democracy in the region, affirming that democracy thrives when accompanied by good governance, justice and fairness for all.

As the head of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Tinubu said he firmly states that the peaceful conduct of the election in Senegal aids the subregional organization in its efforts to maintain peace, respect for the constitution, and promote closer ties among its member states.

He concluded by assuring the people of Senegal of Nigeria’s unwavering support and best wishes as they embark on this new chapter in their nation’s journey.
