AFTER A strategic two-nation diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s ties with the Caribbean and advancing its global influence within emerging economies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Abuja on Saturday.

His state visit began on 28 June 2025, as the president departed Abuja for Castries, the capital of Saint Lucia.

Over the course of four days, President Tinubu engaged with key national leaders including Governor-General Cyril Charles and Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre.

While there, he addressed a special joint sitting of the Saint Lucian Parliament, where he reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to South-South cooperation and regional solidarity.

Central to the visit was the signing of a landmark Technical Manpower Assistance agreement as an initiative set to mobilise Nigerian professionals, teachers, doctors, and engineers, to contribute their expertise to capacity-building programmes across Saint Lucia and other member states of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The agreement aligns with Nigeria’s broader objective to export knowledge-based resources while fostering deeper ties with small island developing states.

Following his engagements in Saint Lucia, the Nigerian leader travelled to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 7 July 2025.

At the summit, President Tinubu joined fellow heads of state to deliberate on global economic reforms, development financing, and collective strategies for addressing inequality and technological exclusion among developing nations.

President Tinubu’s participation in the BRICS is said to be a gathering signalled Nigeria’s intent to further integrate into global decision-making platforms, particularly those that challenge the structural imbalances in multilateral institutions.

His presence also asserted Nigeria’s readiness to play a leading role in shaping inclusive economic policies across the Global South.

Now back in the country’s capital, the president is expected to brief stakeholders on the outcomes of his diplomatic engagements and outline follow-up actions to implement bilateral and multilateral commitments secured during the mission.
