ENDORSEMENT OF Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was on Tuesday transmitted via a formal letter by President Bola Tinubu to the Senate, requesting his confirmation.
According to the communication sent to the upper chamber, the nomination of Dr Doro follows the election of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.
Professor Yilwatda, who previously held the position of Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, vacated the office after assuming his new role in the party’s national leadership.
Dr Doro, born on 23 January 1969 in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, brings over two decades of multidisciplinary experience spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, strategic leadership, and community engagement both in the United Kingdom (UK) and Nigeria.
The President’s nomination letter highlighted Dr Doro’s vast expertise and leadership record, citing his professional competence and contributions to healthcare and social development.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the Federal Executive Council’s drive for improved public service delivery and inclusive national representation.
Dr Doro holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, alongside a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on information technology-driven business strategy. He also holds a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.
A registered Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner, Dr Doro has extensive frontline experience within the United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS), where he served across multiple settings including urgent care units, walk-in centres, general practice clinics, and hospital environments.
His professional background encompasses both medical and administrative leadership, integrating pharmaceutical care with modern clinical approaches to patient safety and efficiency.
Within his years of service, Dr Doro has earned recognition for his commitment to evidence-based practice and healthcare innovation.
Beyond his medical career, Dr Doro has demonstrated a sustained dedication to youth development and social empowerment.
He has led mentorship initiatives and social impact programmes targeting young professionals and students in both diaspora and local Nigerian communities.
These efforts have focused on leadership capacity building, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, fostering a generation of professionals equipped with values of integrity and innovation.
Dr Doro’s nomination has drawn interest within political and professional circles, particularly as Plateau State maintains a strong representation in national leadership under the Tinubu administration.
His confirmation, if approved by the Senate, will restore Plateau’s ministerial seat and enhance federal inclusivity in line with constitutional provisions requiring each state to be represented in the cabinet.
The Senate is expected to deliberate on the President’s request during its next plenary session, after which the nominee will undergo screening by the Senate Committee on Appointments and Confirmation.
The process will assess his credentials, professional record, and readiness to serve in the Federal Executive Council.
Dr Doro’s career reflects a blend of global exposure and national service orientation, aligning with ongoing government efforts to attract technocrats and diaspora professionals into governance and public administration.
His multidisciplinary background in pharmacy, law, and management underscores a modern approach to policymaking and inter-sectoral collaboration in healthcare and social welfare sectors.
As the government continues its agenda for economic recovery and social inclusion, Dr Doro’s potential inclusion in the cabinet is expected to reinforce the administration’s focus on health system strengthening, humanitarian support, and sustainable poverty reduction initiatives across the federation.
The Presidency emphasised that his nomination reflects a merit-based consideration rooted in his track record of professional integrity, leadership, and community impact.
The nomination awaits the Senate’s legislative process for confirmation in accordance with Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which stipulates that ministerial appointments require Senate approval upon the President’s recommendation.
