YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT and poverty remain pressing issues in Nigeria.

At the 3-Day National Skills Acquisition Conference held at the Banquet Hall in Abuja, the government underscored its resolve to confront these challenges.

Organised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Think Tank, The Progressive Institute, the conference highlighted vocational skills acquisition and entrepreneurship as vital tools for national development.

Declaring the event open, President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to bridging developmental gaps hindering youth empowerment.

He pledged to harmonise federal and state-level interventions, maximise resources, and deliver comprehensive strategies to address youth unemployment in the coming year.

APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, emphasised the importance of turning Nigeria’s large youth population into an economic advantage through targeted skills training.

Ganduje reiterated the APC’s commitment to developing a national policy on skills technology to drive youth-focused development.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, assured support for the Progressive Institute’s initiatives.

Jibrin praised the Institute’s innovative approach and called on opposition parties to prioritise the livelihood of Nigerians.

Director General of The Progressive Institute, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, commended Ganduje’s efforts in advancing youth skill acquisition and aligning with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He assured attendees that investments in youth programmes would soon yield tangible results.

The conference brought together APC leaders, academics, and experts from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

TPI is now tasked with compiling the conference’s findings for submission to the federal government.

Wale Abideen, Head of Media and Strategic Communication, API, described the initiative as a cornerstone of Tinubu’s administration’s renewed hope agenda.
