VISIBLE SWELLING in the lower legs and bruising on the right hand prompted a medical evaluation that confirmed United States President Donald Trump has a common but non-serious vein condition.
The White House on Thursday identified the issue as chronic venous insufficiency, a circulatory disorder frequently observed in individuals over the age of 70.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the 79-year-old president underwent comprehensive testing after noticing mild swelling in recent weeks.
However, an ultrasound and further cardiovascular checks showed no signs of deep vein thrombosis, arterial disease, heart failure, renal impairment, or any systemic illness.
The bruising seen on the back of Trump’s hand was linked to soft tissue irritation caused by repeated handshaking and regular aspirin use, part of a standard cardiovascular prevention regimen.

Leavitt noted this is a well-documented and benign reaction to aspirin therapy and confirmed the president “remains in excellent health.”
Trump, who began his second term in January, instructed his team to release a physician’s note in what Leavitt described as “an effort of transparency.”
The findings were shared following days of public attention, especially after images taken during the FIFA Club World Cup final showed noticeable swelling around Trump’s ankles.
Despite online attention, Trump’s medical results showed a normal cardiac structure and blood flow, with no evidence of complications often associated with circulatory disorders.
Chronic venous insufficiency occurs when damaged veins in the legs hinder blood from returning efficiently to the heart. Though it may cause pain, swelling, or discolouration, the condition is typically manageable and non-life-threatening.
The physical fitness of presidents has come under heightened attention in recent years, with both Trump and predecessor Joe Biden serving at historically advanced ages.
Biden, now 82, was forced to end his 2024 re-election campaign following a calamitous debate performance and a diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer in May.

Trump, meanwhile, has continued to highlight his vitality and activity levels, frequently playing golf and appearing in high-energy campaign imagery.
Thursday’s health disclosure is the latest effort by the administration to reassure the public of the president’s condition amid ongoing focus on the age and wellbeing of national leaders.
