PRESIDENT BOLA Tinubu has extended heartfelt congratulations to seasoned journalist and former Executive Director of TELL Magazine, Oludare Babarinsa, in honour of his 70th birthday.
Marking the milestone as a testament to decades of journalistic excellence and commitment to nation-building, the President praised Babarinsa’s enduring contributions to the Nigerian media landscape and his unflinching stance during critical periods in the country’s history.
Babarinsa’s journalism journey began in 1981 at Daily Times during his national service. His passion quickly evolved into a career rooted in advocacy, with impactful tenures at Concord newspapers, Newswatch, and later, 15 years as Executive Director at TELL Magazine.
Throughout, he established a reputation for principled reporting and bold commentary, particularly during Nigeria’s turbulent military era.
President Tinubu commended Babarinsa’s pivotal role in promoting democracy and press freedom, highlighting his courage in the face of authoritarianism.
He lauded the journalist’s clarity of thought and prolific output, describing his writings as instrumental in fostering political and economic awareness, particularly among the Yoruba people.
Recognising Babarinsa’s leadership at Gaskiya Media and his contributions as Chairman and Managing Director, the President acknowledged his continued efforts to nurture ethical journalism.
He specifically noted Babarinsa’s role within the Nigeria Guild of Editors in mentoring a new generation of media professionals grounded in truth, accuracy, and fairness.
As the veteran journalist joins the ranks of Nigeria’s septuagenarians, President Tinubu offered prayers for Babarinsa’s continued good health and many more years of impactful public service.
The tribute was delivered via an official statement e-signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and released on 6 May 2025.
