…Burkina Faso First Choice Keeper is The First ‘Bad Girl’ of WAFCON2026.
THE IVORIEN ladies on Monday night trampled on the Lady Stallions of Burkina Faso in the 2nd match of Group B round one by 4-1 in Morocco.
The Ivoriens became a nightmare for the Burkina babes scoring a penalty goal from Rebecca Elloh in the 7th minute before Ines Konan who plays for Strasbourg Women scored her brace in the 14th minute through Konassi assist and in the 23rd minute through a good connect from Nsira Ouedraogo.
Nsira herself scored the 4th goal in the 56th minute before A. Congo scored a consolation goal for Burkina Faso in the 60th minute.
The match saw the first ‘bad girl’ (a term used for a red carded player in a match) in Faouzia Ouedraogo the Burkina Faso who got a straight red for bad play in the 52nd minute. The Stallions Manager promptly pulled out a playet in S. Zida and brought in Asec Mimosas Women FC Goalkeeper, Nina Dabilgou who continued the match.
The result was not a surprise to soccer pundits because the Ivoriens ranked 72 in the world were coming to the party for the 3rd time and had won WAFCON Bronze in 2014 when they beat South Africa by a lone goal after they lost the semifinal to Cameroon 1-2 after extra time.
Burkina Faso ranked 118 in the world were stepping into the tournament finals for the 2nd time and they were pushed out at the group stage in 2022.
Ivory Coast leads Group B with 3 points scoring 4 goals and conceding 1; Tanzania is 2nd with 3 points scoring 2 goals and conceding 1; South is 3rd with no point scored 1 goal and conceded 2 while Burkina Faso is at the bottom with no point scoring a goal but conceding 4.
Tomorrow Tuesday at 6pm Zambia will try to cross the Red Sea before Egypt destroys them in Group C before Africa’s record ten times champions out of 13 tournaments. The Super Falcons of Nigeria will play debutante Malawi Scorchers at 9pm.
The first-round group games will end on Wednesday when Ghana plays Cape Verde at 6pm and Mali will try to cage the Lionesses of Cameroon at 9pm.
