WAFCON2026: Senegal, Kenya Sent Out In Group A

…Hosts Morocco and Algeria for Quarterfinals.

THE TERANGA Lionesses of Senegal and Harambee Starlets of Kenya were Monday night sent out of the 14th WAFCON2026 tournament.

The Lionesses played a goalless draw with the hosts, Atlas Lionesses of Morocco in a war of Lionesses at the Olympic Stadium Rabat with an eventful moment when Morocco was awarded a penalty kick and Mrbet stepped out to take it. Goalkeeper Ndiaye saved it but the Ref ruled that she stepped out of her lines and ordered a retake. Morocco changed the player pushing forward Chebbak to take it but the Ref stood her ground that it must be Mrabet. Ndiaye again saved it.

Senegal ranked 79 failed to appear in their 3rd quarterfinals having been there in 2022 and 2024. It’s their 3rd appearances.

Senegal women never defeated or scored against their Moroccan counterparts in their previous 6 games played where Morocco won 4 and drew 2 scoring all the 11 goals recorded.

Four of the previous meetings were WAFCON matches.

In the other Group A match played simultaneously at the Moulay Stadium in Rabat the Harambee Starlets lost to the Fennecs of Algeria 0-2.

Star girl, Bristol City FC women Striker, Marine Dafeur scored the opener in the 13th minute, and Lynda Brendris got the 2nd goal in the 22nd minute.

Kenya too had never beaten Algeria in the 4 games played before as Algeria won one and drew 3 scoring 6 of the 11 goals recorded.

They drew the two meetings at WAFCON in April 2016.

Ranked 128, Kenya in their 2nd outing were sent out of the group games as in 2016.

Algeria ranked 74 in their 7th WAFCON tournament is reaching the quarterfinals for the 2nd time like they did in 2024.

Morocco beat Algeria 1-0; killed Kenya 4-0; Algeria beat Senegal 2-0, but Senegal spanked Kenya1-0.

Morocco topped group A with 7 points scoring 5 goals with a clean slate; Algeria is 2nd with 6 points scoring 4 goals and conceding 1; Senegal made 4 points scoring one goal and conceding 2 while Kenya was not able to get a point or score a goal but conceded 7 goals.

Morocco will meet Runnersup of Group B at 6.00pm on Saturday in the quarterfinals while Algeria will meet the winners of same Group B at 9.00pm same day.

Group B will be decided simultaneously tomorrow at 9.00pm when Tanzania will play Ivory Coast and South Africa will play a vital survival match against Burkina Faso.

On Wednesday Malawi will tackle Zambia while Nigeria has a make or Mar appointment with Egypt at 9pm simultaneously.

Last group D games are on Thursday at 9pm when Cape Verde will look into the eyes of the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon and Mali will try the Black Queens of Ghana.
