THE COPPER Queens of Zambia Tuesday evening in Morocco sank the Cleopatras of Egypt in the Red Sea of WAFCON 2026 Group C tournament opener in Morocco with a whopping 6-0, the highest scored by any team so far.
Tournament ace, Barbra Banda is already the tournament highest scorer with her four goals in the match. She scored a penalty in the 61st minute; scored 63rd, 88th and made a late goal in the 90+7 minute to complete the sinking of the Egyptians. Barbra whose been a veteran of the Zambian team born 26 years ago plays for Orlando Pride of the USA.
Other scorers for Zambia were Rachael Nachula also 26 years old who plays for Bay FC in the USA and scored the opener via penalty in the 25th minute as well as Eneless Phiri who scored in the 90+3 minute.
It is not necessary to bother you with the stats of the match because it further shows the hopelessness of the Egyptians who could only make 3-13 shots at goal, conceded 0-8 corner kicks but shared the yellow cards 1-1.
An observation is that the Zambians are very physical as usual with 17-3 foul calls on them.
They must have terrified the tender Egyptians with their jam body game running into opponents like Zion train.
Ranked 65 in the world, Zambia is in her 5th appearances at the tournament, won Bronze in 2022 made quarterfinals in 2024 and were sent off at the group stages in 2016 and 2020.
Ranked 99, Egypt is in her 3rd appearances, and we’re sent off at the group stages in 1998 and 2016. Failure to beat Malawi on 1st August when Nigeria will meet Zambia means Egypt is out because they will face Nigeria in the last group game on 5th August.
NIGERIA us about now meeting debutante Scorchers of Malawi.
