THE FEMALE Eagles of Mali on Sunday night in Morocco pecked the Female senior team of Cape Verde 3-2 to have a chance to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 14th tournament.
Aissata of the five Traore sisters of Mali got Oumou Kone to score the opening goal in the 28th minute of the game.
The four other Traore sisters who played well were Diarras, Selimata, Fatoumata and Agueissa.
It was Agueissa Traore who laid a pass for Fatoumeta Niekate to score the 2nd goal for Mali in the 50th minute before Fatoumeta Traore made it three goals for Mali through Orokia Sissoko connect in the 79th minute.
E. VIERA got her 2nd goal in the tournament for Cape Verde as an equalizer today in the 35th with a powerful lone strike. Alillia Kelly made the 2nd goal for Cape Verde late at the 88th minute.
Cape Verde came to show ball juggling skills instead of scoring goals passing the ball 319-225 times in their 10-19 shots at goal with 3-5 on target; they could only get 3-5 corner kicks which did not scare Mali. Mali had 15-14 foul calls with 3-1 yellow cards.
Both sides met twice at WAFCON level on 24th October 2025 when Cape Verde lost at home by a lone goal and on 18th October 2025 when they beat Mali 4-2 in Bamako.
Debutante Cape Verde is ranked 120. Nigeria had beaten them 5-0 in January 2023 and Morocco mauled them 5-0 at the pre WAFCON friendly of July this year.
The Female Eagles of Mali ranked 84 is at the party for the 8th time making the 4th position in 2018.
Cameroon tops group D with 6 points and +2 goals difference; Ghana is 2nd with 3 points and +1 goals difference; Mali is 3rd with 3 points too but with zero goals difference while Cape Verde rocks the bottom having no point but -5 goals difference.
Cape Verde is meeting Cameroon in their last group game while Mali will play against Ghana on Thursday simultaneously at 9.00pm.
Tomorrow Group A last group matches will be played at 9.00pm; it will be Group B on Tuesday at same 9pm before Group C decides on Wednesday the fate of the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
