NIGERIA’s MINISTER of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has returned to the country following a trip abroad for a supposed medical care.
Edun was seen on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Fraser Suites in Abuja, where he reportedly held a closed-door meeting with a Qatari delegation alongside the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole.
The minister’s appearance comes weeks after reports of ill health that led to his absence from official duties.
Last week, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that Edun was indisposed and had travelled abroad for rest and medical attention.
During his absence, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Olayemi Cardoso led Nigeria’s delegation to the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) annual meetings in Washington, D.C.

Earlier, Edun was sighted in London attending the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, where he visited the O’DA Art Gallery booth. This was amid his ill-health that would have made him to be on hospital admission.
Also, a video of his visit was shared online by Onanuga, who said the minister was on an “officially sanctioned few days of rest from the rigours of managing the Nigerian economy.”
Subsequently, his return and participation in the Abuja meeting mark his first public engagement since his medical trip, easing speculation over his health and signalling a resumption of his ministerial duties.
