THE WIGWE University has joined the global remembrance of its late founder, Dr Herbert Wigwe, CFR, on the occasion of his 59th posthumous birthday.
The institution described the day as a solemn tribute to a visionary whose determination and leadership established what it called a citadel of knowledge and innovation.
In a statement signed by Vice-Chancellor Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, the university said Dr Wigwe was more than a leader, portraying him as a transformative figure and steadfast advocate for education’s power to uplift communities.
His commitment to excellence, innovation, and societal advancement, the statement noted, remains deeply embedded in the institution’s identity.
The statement recalled Dr Wigwe’s guiding philosophy that “fearlessness is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it,” affirming that the principle continues to define the university’s mission of preparing leaders, thinkers, and change-makers to advance Nigeria and Africa.
According to the statement, the university community observed the anniversary with reflection and prayers for Dr Wigwe and his departed loved ones, acknowledging their contributions as a lasting source of inspiration.
“May the light they left behind remain a guiding flame – a legacy of courage, purpose, and transformative education,” it read.
Professor Al-Akaidi urged all members of the university and beneficiaries of Dr Wigwe’s vision to reaffirm their commitment to his ideals.
“Let us honour his memory by pursuing knowledge boldly, leading with integrity, and lifting others as he did.
Wigwe University will forever stand as a tribute to his greatness,” he stated.
The university also offered prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr Wigwe, his wife, son, and all who perished with them, expressing hope that their light would continue to inspire future generations.
The statement concluded with the declaration: “Long live the Fearless Vision. Long live Wigwe University.”
