FOR OVER two decades, the Oxford Media Policy Summer Institute has brought together leading early and mid-career scholars, media lawyers and regulators, human rights activists, technologists and policymakers from around the world to discuss the impact of technology, media and policy from a global and multidisciplinary perspective.

As an integral part of Oxford’s Centre for Socio-Legal Studies and the Faculty of Law, the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy (PCMLP) has been a critical site for discourse on issues of tech governance. Over the years, we have built a strong global network of alumni and faculty, many of whom return to Oxford as speakers or visitors.

Deadline: April 25, 2025

The Institute aims to broaden and expand the pool of talented scholars & practitioners working in these fields and connect them with elite scholars and practitioners from around the world. It also facilitates interdisciplinary dialogue and builds space for future collaborations.

Our programme changes each year depending on current events, emerging issues in technology and policy, and the interests and expertise of the participants. The emphasis is on facilitating stimulating discussions and debates that continue outside of the seminar room. This year’s topic is Media policy in a time of global crises and geo-political (re)ordering.

A highly intensive course with more than 60 contact hours with leading academics and distinguished guests.

With 50 participants each year, hailing from more than two dozen countries around the world, the Institute has long offered participants unrivalled exposure to the diverse experiences and media environments of its global participants and speakers.

The Institute’s alumni are an exceptional and vibrant group who stay engaged and collaborate well past the end of the programme through the active alumni network. Many go on to become leaders at top government agencies, corporations, non-profits, and academic institutions around the world.
