…Morocco in Knockout stages, Qatar Sneezed Out of World Cup.
THE BAFANA Bafana of South Africa Thursday morning Nigerian time tamed the Asian Tigers of South Korea by a lone goal at the Estadio Monterrey Guadalupe, Mexico in the 2026 World Cup for senior men’s football to qualify for her first knockout stages in history.
The memorable goal for the 60th ranked Xenophobic infested South Africa came in the 63rd minute when Tshepang Moremi (sounding like the name of the goddess of ancient Ile-Ife in Nigeria) gave a thorough pass to Thapelo Maseko to score.
The Ancient Tigers ranked 25 were lost in the jungle where they dominated play but the South Africans stoutly prevented shots at goal or on target.
In the other Group A match, co-hosts Mexico pushed off Czechia on the train of advancement via 3-0 bashing with goals from Chavez (55′), Quinones (61′) and Fidalgo (90+5′).
South Africa that was always eliminated at the group stages in three previous appearances of 1998, 2002 and 2010 when she hosted qualified for the knockout stages having placed 2nd in Group A with 4 points scoring 2 goals and conceding 3.
Mexico topped the Group with full 9 points scoring 6 goals and ending with a clean slate; the Asian Tigers managed to place 3rd with 3 points scoring 2 goals and conceding 3 while Czechia is going home after only scoring one point.
In the first group A matches Mexico hammered South Africa 2-0 and South Korea got a 2-1 Win. In the second group matches, South Africa played 1-1 draw with Czechia and Mexico nabbed South Korea by a lone goal.
South Korea placed 4th at the Korea/Japan world cup of 2002.
Yesterday, Samba Boys of Brazil poked Scotland 3-0 while Morocco of Africa hit Haiti 4-2 in Group C. Brazil topped the group with 7 points scoring 7 goals and conceding a goal; Morocco had a pulsating 7 points too but fell on goals difference having scored 6 goals and conceded 3 to place 2nd; Scotland placed 3rd with 3 points while Haiti is home bound with no point.
In Group B, Bosnia crushed Qatar 3-1 and Switzerland shocked co-hosts Canada 2-1. Switz topped the group with 7 points; Canada placed 2nd with 4 points above Bosnia on goals difference while Qata goes back home with a point.
Later today at 9.00pm Ivory Coast will play her all-important match against Curaco in Group E while at midnight Tunisia will file out against the Orange Boys of Netherlands in Group F.
