The Portuguese U20 Women’s Football team Sunday night in Poland saw off their Costa Rican opponents 3-0 to Clinch a 2nd spot in group E leaving Columbia to bite their fingers over just a goal difference.
Anna Marques scored a brace first goal in the 7th minute through Francisca Castro pass and the 3rd goal in the 58th minute while Erica Canceliha gave Carolina Tristao an assist in the 34th minute that collapsed the Costarican hope of not being labelled whipping dogs of the group.
In the other Group E game, North Korea caused trouble for Columbia with another 3-0 drubbing of the night. Choe Rim Jong got an assist from Pak OK I to open scoring in the 11th minute before Choe Yon A got her brace from two penalty kicks, first 81st minute when Samantha Rodriguez who gave out a penalty in each match Columbia played committed a foul in the box and in the 85th minute after Juan Ortega fouled.
North Korea topped group E with 9 points and 9 goals; Portugal came 2nd with 4 points and 1 goal difference when Columbia that had same 4 points with a painful -1 goal difference came 3rd and Costa Rica failed to get a point but received -9 goals difference.
The Knockout stages begin with Argentina clashing with South Korea on Wednesday at 2 pm same time Brazil will wany to teach USA tiki-taka flow of football.
That same day at 5:30pm Italian ladies will take on their Chinese counterparts while same time Spain and Portugal will clash.
On Thursday 17th September at 2pm France will attempt to beat Canada while at the same time The Falconets of Nigeria will seek to capture the Young Lionesses of England.
At 5:30pm same Thursday there will be highly computerised game between Japan and North Korea when hosts Poland will seek advancement in a round leather duel against Columbia.
It is noteworthy to inform you that Nigeria is the only African country standing in the tournament among four entries by the Confederation of African Football CAF as Ghana, Tanzania and Benin Republic have been sent home at the group stages.
