…South Korea pips World Football Powers, Argentina by a Lone Goal to zoom to the quarters
THE SAMBA Girls of Brazil Wednesday sent out three times world champions, Yankee Babes of USA at the Round of 16 match played at the Arena Katowice in Poland 5-4 via penalty shootouts after playing 1-1 at Full-time before a crowd of 15,048 in the match handled by Ref S. Gasperotti of Italy.
Brazil who out of 12 appearances bagged Bronze twice in 2006 and 2022 opened scoring from a corner kick taken by Vitorinha and scored by Sofia Canto in the 59th minute before Ainsley McCammon equalized in the 63rd minute. Both sides lost gasping moments of scoring.
USA that won the title in 2002, 2008 and 2012 lost her 1st kick taken by Emeri Adames but McCammon, Nguyen, Joseph and Alvarez scored their kicks in that order.
Brazil scored all their shootouts through Brenha, Gisele, Emily Lucas, Aninha and Bianca Martin’s in that order.
To get to the round of 16 Brazil defeated Tanzania 4-1; canned Canada 3-0 and outplayed England 2-1. USA lost to Italy 1-2; played 2-2 with Japan and slaughtered New Zealand 9-0.
Brazil and USA met five times with USA winning twice and drawing twice as both sides scored two goals each. 0n 3rd April 2006 both played goalless draw in a world cup duel; USA won on 9th August 2014 by a lone goal in a world cup duel; the friendly match of 6th June 2015 was won by USA 2-1; the only win of Brazil was at a tournament match played on 11th December 2017 which ended 2-0 and the last time they met in a friendly match of 15th April 2026 it ended 1-1.
Brazil will meet the winner of the clash between Spain and Portugal in the quarterfinals on the 19th of September.
19-year-old South Korean midfielder, Ye-Joo Beom lone strike in the 33rd minute sent out Argentina from the tournament in the other round of 16 match.
South Korea will meet the winner of the Italy versus China match in the quarterfinals on 19th September.
Two rounds of 16 matches are being decided right now in Poland. Nigeria’s conquerors Spain is facing Portugal at Arena Sasnowiec while Italy is in a crunchy one against China.
Nigeria plays England tomorrow at 2.00pm same time France will take on Canada while at 5:30pm Japan will slog it out with defending champions North Korea while Hosts Poland try out Columbia to move to the next round also at 5:30pm.
