FIRM MEASURES will be taken against any individual or group attempting to disrupt the Remo Federal Constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has stated.
The governor issued the warning during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally for the election at Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, on Tuesday.
The by-election, he explained, seeks to elect a replacement for the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the constituency in the House of Representatives.
Abiodun stressed that the exercise must be peaceful and free from intimidation.
“I have heard that some people are issuing threats; this is not a threat we will take lightly. Let me say this: anyone that troubles you on Saturday will be dealt with,” the governor said.
He noted his role as both the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of Ogun State, assuring residents of protection on election day.
Abiodun urged constituents to participate without fear, adding, “Any threat they issue against you won’t come to fruition. Anyone we catch will face the full wrath of the law.”
He emphasised that the APC governs at the federal level and described any attempt to intimidate voters as “baseless noise”.
According to the governor, the by-election is not about thuggery but the continuation of effective representation initiated by the late Hon. Onanuga, popularly called ‘Ijaya’.
He called for continuity through the party’s candidate, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, who, he said, is “highly intellectual, cool-headed, and knowledgeable” and would deliver quality representation in the House of Representatives.
Abiodun identified Ogijo as a strategic border town and pledged his administration’s continued attention to its development needs.
Extends Property Document Deadline
Separately, the Ogun State Government has extended by two weeks the deadline for property owners and occupiers affected by the ongoing audit exercise to submit title documents.
The extension is intended to give property owners and developers additional time to present planning permits or to regularise unapproved developments through the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development and its agencies.
The state government said the decision followed appeals from a cross-section of affected property owners in Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode.
It affirmed that the measure reflects its goodwill and commitment to the rule of law and transparency, while making clear that the extension does not reverse any constitutional or statutory actions already undertaken.
Ogun authorities reiterated that the physical development audit in Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode, and other parts of the state is part of a continuous drive to ensure sustainable urban development, and not a witch-hunt against individuals or organisations.
The government emphasised its intention to apply planning regulations consistently to safeguard the state’s urban growth.
