CREATIVE ENERGY became central focus as ABUMET Nigeria Ltd, the full-service aluminium and glass solutions subsidiary of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, held its maiden Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative tagged the Abumet Graffiti Art Competition in Abuja.

The programme, designed to inspire creativity among young Nigerians, offered university students a platform to express their artistic skills while reflecting elements of ABUMET’s brand identity.

The competition, which focused on education and human capital development, tasked participants with integrating aspects of aluminium profiles, façades, and craftsmanship — key symbols of ABUMET’s operational excellence — into their designs. For two days, the contestants transformed blank shipping containers into colourful works of art, combining originality, innovation, and technical precision.

According to the company, the initiative forms part of its wider CSR commitment to youth empowerment through practical, skill-based engagement that aligns with its values of creativity and professionalism.

The artworks were assessed by a panel of seasoned local artists who evaluated entries based on creativity, originality, relevance to the theme, execution, and overall impact.

The contest produced three winners: Johaness emerged first, receiving a prize of N1,000,000; Zaphaniel secured second place with N500,000; and Boluwatife came third, winning N300,000.

Other remaining participants were also recognised with consolation prizes for their contributions and creative effort.

Speaking during the award presentation, ABUMET’s General Manager, Diemo Schillack, described the Graffiti Art Competition as a reflection of the company’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering creative expression among Nigerian youth.

“This initiative demonstrates our dedication to supporting young people, driving creativity, and empowering the next generation of leaders,” he said.

Schillack explained that ABUMET intends to continue and expand similar initiatives to sustain the positive impact and strengthen the momentum achieved through the competition. He noted that the project aligns with ABUMET’s reputation for delivering high-quality construction and design solutions across Nigeria, adding that youth development remains central to the company’s CSR objectives.

“Our mission goes beyond providing innovative aluminium and glass solutions,” he stated. “We are deliberately empowering young Nigerians to identify and develop their unique talents for their personal advancement and for the good of society.”

The event also reflected ABUMET’s long-standing philosophy of recognising every contribution to service and excellence. The company emphasised that acknowledging creativity in all its forms encourages broader participation and inspires young people to pursue skill-based careers.

Several participants expressed appreciation to ABUMET for the opportunity to showcase their talents, describing the competition as both inspiring and empowering.

They commended the company for investing in youth creativity and called for more corporate organisations to support similar initiatives.
