NIGERIA’s POWER Minister, Adebayo Adelabu, has called for international collaboration to strengthen and reform the nation’s power sector.
He made the appeal at the commissioning of new facilities at the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) in Abuja on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.
Adelabu stressed that training the workforce remained essential to stabilising the sector.
He noted that the commissioning underscored a firm commitment to building a highly skilled workforce capable of responding to challenges in the rapidly changing energy industry.
According to him, the facilities at NAPTIN would provide Nigerian youths with modern tools and access to advanced technologies, equipping them with the expertise required to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the country’s power sector.
The Minister expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for prioritising key infrastructure projects to secure Nigeria’s development.
Adelabu said the government recognised that the future of the nation depended on providing opportunities for its vibrant youthful population and translating those opportunities into meaningful economic growth.
He emphasised that the initiative aligned with the administration’s vision of ensuring prosperity through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Adelabu lauded the partnership and support of the French Government and the European Union, acknowledging that the success of the project had been made possible through funding support from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the EU.
He described the collaboration as a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to transform its energy landscape.
The Minister urged stakeholders in the power sector to treat NAPTIN facilities as a shared national resource and make them their first point of call before considering training programmes outside Nigeria.
He maintained that such use would enhance the institute’s relevance and ensure its facilities achieved maximum impact across the sector.
Commending the Director General of NAPTIN and his team for their role in delivering the project, Adelabu said the event was more than the unveiling of new infrastructure.
“This is the unveiling of hope, of opportunity, and of a brighter future for Nigeria’s power sector,” he stated.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Power and its agencies to continue working with the European Union and other development partners.
According to him, future engagements would focus on advancing technical training, strengthening infrastructure, and generating employment opportunities that would contribute to the overall development of Nigeria’s power sector.
