GUIDELINES FOR the conduct of the 2026 presidential primary election have been announced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside approval of committees and state coordinators for the exercise.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that Felix Morka, the national publicity secretary of the APC, issued a statement on Thursday saying the National Working Committee approved the decisions in line with the constitution of the party and the Electoral Act.
The statement said the approval reflects commitment to a transparent and credible primary election process.
Also, the party stated that it will adopt a direct primary mode for the presidential election. It added that all registered members will be eligible to vote for their preferred candidates across 8,809 wards nationwide.
Results from 774 local government areas will be collated by designated collation officers.
The party said state coordinators and collation officers will oversee the exercise across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Collated results will be presented to the presidential primary election committee in Abuja on May 24, 2026.
The APC named Pius Anyim, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, as chairman of the presidential primary election committee.
Other members include Ken Nnamani, former Senate President, Victor Ndoma Egba, former Senate Leader, Yakubu Dogara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Idris Wada, former Kogi State Governor.
Aminu Masari, former Katsina State Governor, was appointed chairman of the presidential primary election appeal committee.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that members of the appeal panel include Samuel Piwuna, former director at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF), and Patricia Etteh, former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
State coordinators and collation officers were also announced for the exercise.
Among those named are Hope Uzodimma for Imo, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Kwara, Ahmadu Fintiri for Adamawa, and Babagana Zulum for Borno.
Others include Siminalayi Fubara for Rivers, Dauda Lawal for Zamfara, Teslim Folarin for Oyo, and Uche Ekwunife for Anambra including governors and political leaders across all 36 states and the FCT.
