FRESH LEADERSHIP chapter has opened at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, with Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo formally assuming office as the institution’s 10th substantive Vice Chancellor and promising to make dialogue and participation central to her administration.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that Badejo formally took over on Monday, September 21, 2026, following the completion of the five-year tenure of her predecessor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji Bello, who was the 9th Vice Chancellor. .
Members of the university community welcomed the new VC during activities held to mark her assumption of office.
Badejo, a Professor of Counselling Psychology, said her administration would encourage an environment where members of the university community could participate in discussions and contribute to the direction of the institution.
Her arrival comes as LASU begins a new administrative cycle, with the university expected to sustain gains made under previous administrations while advancing its work in teaching, research, innovation and community service.
Badejo brings more than three decades of experience in teaching, research, institutional leadership, mentorship and educational innovation, according to the university’s official profile.
Her previous responsibilities at LASU included leadership of the university’s Research Ethics Committee, alongside other academic and administrative roles.
She is a Fellow of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) and the Association of Professional Counsellors in Nigeria (APROCON). She has also received national and international recognition for her contributions to education and the counselling profession.
Her appointment as Vice Chancellor was approved by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu earlier in September.
She succeeds Olatunji Bello, whose tenure ended on September 19, 2026, bringing to a close a five-year administration at the university.
LASU Community Welcomes Badejo 10th VC
As the new administration begun at LASU, members of the university community welcomed Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi Badejo as the institution’s 10th substantive Vice Chancellor on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Badejo assumed office as the Chief Executive and Academic Head of the university, with University Management, Senate, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders receiving her into the leadership of the institution.
They described her assumption as marking the commencement of building on the achievements of previous administrations while charting new pathways for growth, innovation and excellence.
Members of the LASU community also expressed their readiness to support her administration as it advances the institution’s core mandates of teaching, research, innovation and community service, saying they welcomed Badejo’s experience, vision and commitment.
They also expressed their anticipation of the new administration and wished her a fulfilling tenure marked by purposeful leadership, meaningful impact and remarkable accomplishments.
