Baptist Theological Seminary Kaduna Matriculates First PhD Students in 78 Years

THE BAPTIST Theological Seminary Kaduna Friday held a landmark matriculation service admitting the first set of Doctor of Philosophy students since the institution was established in 1948.

The Seminary equally admitted for studies for the first time Masters of Philosophy Students; specialised first Bachelor of Church Music students and first Diploma in Women Leadership program.

The matriculating students are distributed across postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, and certificate levels as follows:
* Bachelor of Theology: 71 students
* Master of Theology: 29 students
* Master of Divinity: 29 students
* Certificate in Women’s Institute: 24 students
* Doctor of Philosophy: 8 students
* Bachelor of Religious Education: 5 students
* Diploma in Theology: 3 students
* Master of Philosophy: 2 students
* Bachelor of Church Music: 2 students
* Diploma in Women Leadership: 2 students.

The guest Speaker, Prof Ezekiel S. Akuso of the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria told the Matriculants that “Africa is now the future of global Christianity and your training in the Seminary matters a lot to carry out God’s plan for Africa”.

Prof Akuso warned that ministerial integrity matters much to be successful God’s Messengers stressing that “God’s Minister must be careful about financial handling as well as relationships especially with women to be able to plug into the plan of God on His mission to Africa”.

According to the University Don, “A Minister of the Gospel must be prayerful and be a ready Preacher of the word of God in season and out of season with grounded knowledge of the word of God”.

It was the first matriculation ceremony under the new President of the Seminary, Dr. Babatunde Ogunlana who promised the new intakes of a great staff and student relationship as prescribed in the Bible.

He explained that the Seminary was upgrading her curriculum and providing enviable study environment and equipment to make learning easier for the students.

This matriculation service marked a notable milestone for the seminary, with the introduction of its new president and the inauguration of multiple academic programmes.

The Registrar of the Seminary, Rev Dr. Mrs. Mary Bakut called out the matriculating students programme by programme to be admitted as students in the institution that has produced notable ministers across the globe in various ministerial cadres.

The Baptist Theological Seminary Kaduna established in 1948 with a purpose of the Seminary to provide sound theological education and pastoral training for those aspects of Christian Ministry.

The curriculum of the institution is designed to prepare God fearing men and women as Messengers of The Master in fulfilling the great commission of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
