THERE ARE stories people carry quietly for years before finding the courage to tell them.
For Ruyi Robert, that moment is arriving through music.
The emerging Nigerian artiste announces he is stepping into the public eye with “Rain”, a debut single that draws from his experiences, questions and struggles as a young Christian, but refuses to package those emotions in the familiar language of solemn worship alone.
Instead, Robert has chosen rhythm.
Set for worldwide release on September 30, 2026, “Rain” brings together Christian Hip-Hop, gospel and dance music, creating an energetic sound that allows faith and everyday life to occupy the same space.
It is an unusual way to introduce oneself, Robert admits.
A debut song can be an attempt to impress, announce ambition or simply test the waters.
But for me, however, “Rain” appears to be something more intimate: an introduction to the person behind the artiste, he intones.
“Rain is a promise I made to myself: that one day, I would tell my story,” Robert added.
That sentence perhaps explains the record better than any description of its genre.
The Making Of Rain
Behind the upbeat production is a young man attempting to make sense of his experiences and turn them into something other people can recognise in themselves.
However, his intention is not to present a life without difficulty, but to acknowledge the struggles that often accompany faith, growth and the search for direction.
And rather than hide those struggles beneath a purely devotional sound, Robert said he has chosen an approach that sounds at home in contemporary music culture.
The result is a record built around two seemingly different worlds.
One is the world of Christian expression of faith, hope, doggedness and encouragement. The other is the world of dance floors, energetic beats and music made to be played loudly.
Robert wants “Rain” to exist in both.
That choice reflects a broader reality of contemporary African music, where genres increasingly overlap and listeners move freely between spiritual, secular, hip-hop and dance sounds.
For a new artiste, that creates room to tell a faith-based story without necessarily confining it to one musical format.
But the personal story remains the foundation.
Robert describes the song as the first of many in which he intends to share more of himself. That makes “Rain” less of a standalone musical experiment and more of an opening chapter.
“This is the very first track of many where I share my heart,” he said, adding that he hopes the song uplifts those who listen.
That hope is important because the song is ultimately about more than Robert.
He also said the struggles that inform his music are presented as experiences through which listeners may also see fragments of their own lives such as moments of uncertainty, persistence, belief and the determination to keep moving despite difficulties.
It is here that the title “Rain” acquires its emotional weight.
Rain can interrupt plans.
It can make the road difficult.
It can also signal renewal.
Robert’s decision to build his first musical statement around that imagery gives the debut a sense of personal symbolism, even as the production remains deliberately lively.
There is no suggestion that the artiste intends to spend his career making only one kind of music.
Rather, “Rain” introduces an artist interested in exploring the intersection of faith, personal experience and contemporary sound.
The September 30 release therefore represents more than the arrival of another name on digital music platforms.
It is Robert’s first public attempt to turn a private journey into something people can hear, dance to and perhaps find encouragement in.
For an artiste at the beginning of his career, that is a considerable first step.
And if “Rain” is indeed the first of many stories Robert intends to tell, the debut may ultimately be remembered less for announcing his arrival than for revealing why he felt he had to make music in the first place.
