BRITAIN HAS a new prime minister after King Charles III appointed Andy Burnham on Monday following Keir Starmer’s formal resignation.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that Buckingham Palace said, “Andrew Burnham MP accepted The King’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister,” adding that the King had asked him to form the next government.
Labour Party leader Andy Burnham became Britain’s new prime minister after meeting King Charles III at Buckingham Palace.
His appointment came minutes after former Prime Minister Keir Starmer officially submitted his resignation to the King at Buckingham Palace.
Burnham, the 5th prime minister in four years, is now on his way to Downing Street to deliver his first speech as prime minister.
Before leaving office, Starmer said in his final address outside No 10 that he was departing “with good grace” and “a smile”.
Burnham became Labour leader on Friday. Later on Monday, he will begin appointing and dismissing ministers.
Prisons minister Lord Timpson resigned on Monday morning.
