COMMUNITY LEADERS in Delta State have been urged to prioritise mediation and dialogue over confrontation in resolving disputes to foster lasting peace and development.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori delivered this message during a meeting with Presidents-General of communities and kingdoms held on Wednesday in Asaba.

Drawing from his tenure as Chairman of Osubi community during the airport construction, Governor Oborevwori stressed the importance of serving community interests over personal gain.

He recalled balancing the needs of his people and the demands of Shell to ensure progress, saying, “By standing as a mediator, I prevented oppression from either side and facilitated the completion of Osubi Airport’s first two phases.”

The Governor emphasised the significance of unity and collaboration between Presidents-General and traditional rulers.

He also announced over ₦2 billion allocated for road projects in each of Delta’s 25 LGAs and pledged to revisit the widows’ programme by early 2025.

Dr Toyin Agbolayah, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Community Development, highlighted the indispensable role of Presidents-General in grassroots development.

Meanwhile, Prince Igwe Nzekwue, President-General of the Delta State Forum of Kingdoms, lauded the governor’s achievements, promising continued support.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous voice vote endorsing Governor Oborevwori for a second term, following a motion moved by Chief Sunday Okiah and seconded by Prince Godwin Okotie.
