THE LANDSCAPE of development journalism in Nigeria and Africa is set for a major transformation as DevReporting, a newly established online newspaper, takes off with a bold mission to reshape the coverage of critical development issues.

Spearheading this ambitious initiative is Mojeed Alabi, former Development Editor at PREMIUM TIMES, who has been appointed as the Editor-in-Chief.

Joining him is Christiana Alabi-Akande, a former correspondent at Daily Trust Newspaper, who steps in as the platform’s Managing Editor.

Their leadership marks a significant step towards delivering impact-driven journalism tailored to the evolving needs of society.

Established by Development Reporting Services Limited, DevReporting is committed to providing in-depth coverage of crucial sectors such as education, health, and humanitarian issues.

According to a statement signed by the organisation’s Administration and Finance Control Manager, Omobayo Azeez, the platform aims to foster “informed discourse, balanced reporting, and comprehensive impact on development issues.”

The newspaper also plans to achieve this mission through four dedicated projects—DevCinema, DevCheck, DevCast, and DevStats.

While further details are yet to be disclosed, these initiatives promise exclusive investigations, detailed analysis, and compelling storytelling that will spotlight development challenges and drive meaningful change.

DevReporting asserts that as societal needs shift, journalism must evolve accordingly.

The statement from the organisation highlights historical milestones where the press played a crucial role—from the fight against colonialism to holding military regimes accountable.

The new platform aims to continue this legacy by prioritising development issues that impact millions across Africa.

Mojeed Alabi brings a wealth of experience in development reporting, having pioneered innovative approaches at PREMIUM TIMES.

His tenure as the Chairman of the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) further cements his expertise in education journalism.

With over a decade in the field and a strong network within the sector, Alabi is well-positioned to lead a team of reporters dedicated to investigative and solutions-driven journalism.

Meet the Leadership Team

A 2005 graduate of English from Obafemi Awolowo University, Alabi also holds a master’s certificate in Diplomacy and Strategic Studies from the University of Lagos.

His work has earned him multiple accolades, including two-time recognition at the prestigious Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting.

Equally accomplished, Christiana Alabi-Akande brings extensive experience covering education, health, technology, gender, and governance.

Having served as a correspondent at Daily Trust Newspaper between 2010 and 2022, she covered the Kaduna and Lagos State Houses of Assembly.

She has also received numerous awards, including the ‘Courage in Journalism’ and the 2016 Journalist of the Year awards from the Africa Media Development Foundation (AMDF).

Her background in Mass Communication from the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, coupled with expertise in digital marketing and fluency in English, Hausa, and Yoruba, positions her as a versatile media professional ready to steer DevReporting towards excellence.

With a commitment to impactful storytelling and investigative rigour, DevReporting said it is poised to challenge conventional narratives and bring pressing development issues to the forefront.

The platform said as it unveils its projects in the coming days, it promises to be a game-changer in the African media landscape.
