AS EARLY as about 8.00am on Saturday, 20 June 2026, voting has been underway across Ekiti State as residents cast ballots in the governorship election holding across all 16 local government areas.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that polling units opened earlier in the day under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), with voters undergoing accreditation before proceeding to vote in their respective locations.
The election brings together candidates from major political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other parties seeking to unseat the incumbent government.
Also, Governor Biodun Oyebanji is contesting for re-election on the APC platform.
In several polling units visited by observers and reported through field updates, voting began gradually in the morning, with turnout building steadily as the day progressed.
INEC officials are on ground across polling stations, managing accreditation, voting procedures, and general electoral logistics.
The commission had earlier deployed ad-hoc staff and election materials across the state ahead of polling day.
Security personnel are also seen stationed at polling units and collation centres across the state. Their presence has been visible in most locations, with inter-agency teams monitoring the process as voting continues.
So far, no major incident has been confirmed as of the time of this report.
Election observer groups and civil society monitors are deployed across the state, tracking turnout, conduct, and compliance with electoral guidelines.
Early observations suggest that voting procedures are largely being followed, though turnout varies between urban and rural communities.
In urban centres, polling units recorded steady participation after a slow start, while some rural areas saw lower voter presence in the early hours.
Meanwhile, as voting concludes in different locations, attention is shifting to the collation process, where results from polling units will be moved to ward centres before progressing to local government collation points.
Party agents and observers are monitoring the emergence of early unofficial results from polling units, even as INEC continues the official collation process.
INEC has maintained that only results processed through its formal collation system will be recognised for declaration.
Meanwhile, JKNewsMedia.com reports that further updates are expected as voting ends across the state and collation continues.
