APPLICATIONS HAVE opened for the 2027/2028 Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowship Plan, with the Federal Ministry of Education inviting qualified Nigerian graduates to apply for study opportunities in the United Kingdom (UK).
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the application window closes on October 20, 2026, according to a notice shared by the Lagos State Scholarship Board and signed by Dr. Folake Olatunji-David on behalf of the Minister of Education.
The Department of Scholarship Awards, formerly known as the Federal Scholarship Board, said Master’s applicants must hold a first degree with at least a Second Class Upper Division, while PhD applicants must possess a relevant Master’s degree and at least a Second Class Lower Division in their first degree.
All applicants must also have secured admission offers from at least two UK institutions.
PhD applicants are additionally required to submit a supporting statement from a prospective supervisor at their chosen UK institution.
Evidence of participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is also mandatory for all categories of applicants.
The Ministry said applications will be assessed on academic merit, development impact upon completion and the quality of the proposed study plan.
Applicants have also been advised to align their proposed studies with Nigeria’s development priority areas, including education, health, economic growth, governance, climate and environment, engineering, science and technology, food and nutrition, and humanitarian emergencies.
Similarly, applications must be submitted online through the Electronic Application System (EAS) as applicants are required to register on the EAS portal, complete the online application form and upload scanned copies of their passport photograph, university transcripts, birth certificate and admission letters from the listed UK institutions.
They must also submit their completed forms online on or before October 20, 2026.
After submitting the application, applicants are required to generate a PDF version of the completed form, download and print one hard copy for submission at the interview venue.
The Ministry further stated that foreign certificates must be accompanied by official translation and evaluation.
