Emirates Bans Use Of Power Banks On Flights From October 1

INTRODUCING NEW restrictions aimed at reducing lithium battery-related incidents, Emirates Airlines has announced the prohibition of the use of power banks on all flights from 1 October 2025,

In a statement, the Dubai-based carrier said passengers will still be permitted to carry one power bank per person, rated under 100 watt-hours, subject to strict conditions.

The device must be placed in the seat pocket or stored in a bag under the seat in front, and it cannot be stored in overhead compartments or checked luggage.

The airline confirmed that charging any device from a power bank or charging the power bank itself using the aircraft’s power supply, will not be allowed.

The measures, Emirates explained, follow a safety review prompted by a rising number of fire incidents across the aviation industry linked to lithium batteries.

“Power banks primarily utilise lithium-ion or lithium-polymer batteries. In the event of overcharging or damage, they may experience thermal runaway – a dangerous chain reaction that can lead to fires, explosions, or toxic gas release,” the airline stated.

By prohibiting their use and ensuring storage in locations accessible to cabin crew, Emirates said the rules will improve emergency response capability in case of a battery-related incident.

The carrier stressed that the new policy aligns with existing safety regulations banning power banks in checked luggage. Emirates added that its safety protocols are continuously reviewed to protect passengers and crew.

“Safety is one of Emirates’ core values and a cornerstone of all operations and practices,” the statement read, noting that the airline remains committed to enhancing onboard safety measures in response to evolving industry risks.
