TRUST EARNED through timely delivery and integrity marked a milestone moment in Abuja as Nigeria’s leading construction firm, Julius Berger, received strong commendation from the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
At the commissioning of the first phase of the N5 Arterial Road, Wike praised the company as a dependable partner in advancing the capital and national development.
The Minister recounted his initial encounter with the company’s Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, in Wiesbaden, Germany.
At the time, Wike was still serving as Rivers State Governor and had travelled with his delegation to negotiate the Port Harcourt Ring Road project.
What began as a casual conversation evolved into a strategic working relationship, now reinforced in his federal role.
With Lubasch’s assumption as head of Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, Wike said the bond grew stronger.
“So, when he eventually came, I said to him, MD, I’m aware the project timeline is about one year and three months, but I want you to ensure that this becomes part of Mr. President’s second-year anniversary achievements.”
Speaking on the financial trustworthiness of Julius Berger, Wike noted that the company began work on the N5 road before receiving full payment, showing faith in the administration’s commitment to contractors.
“Of course, you know Julius Berger, the money must be on ground,” Wike said, “but they told me that they know this administration has given contractors confidence that they will always be paid.”
He pledged continued government cooperation, affirming that the road will be extended to Ring Road 3 and further to the airport.
“I want to sincerely thank them for keeping to their words,” Wike added, highlighting Julius Berger’s integrity and reliability.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented at the event by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief George Akume, also lauded the construction giant for its enduring excellence.
He stated that the newly commissioned road will improve connectivity across the districts of Dape, Gwarinpa 1, Kado, Karsana, Idu, and Mbora, while easing gridlock around Lifecamp junction and its environs.
Julius Berger’s Managing Director, Lubasch, reiterated the company’s dedication to quality and international standards.
“The successful delivery of this project in record time is yet another testament to the enduring values that define our company: professionalism, efficiency, quality and excellence,” he said.
Acknowledging the FCT Administration’s collaborative support, Lubasch expressed gratitude on behalf of the Board and staff for the opportunity to contribute to national development.
Senior company officials including Region North and Central Manager, Oliver Berger, Project Manager Johnny Houchan, and Project Coordinator Engr. Dr. Ismaila Amodu, were present at the commissioning, marking a shared celebration of infrastructure progress.
