EMERGENCY FOOD aid reached over 1,500 flood-displaced residents in Mokwa, Niger State, as Fidelity Bank Plc activated its Food Bank Initiative in response to the recent disaster.
The initiative, driven by the bank’s humanitarian commitment, brought food packs to affected families, marking a swift intervention to support a community grappling with displacement and loss.
The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, launched to assist vulnerable populations across Nigeria, channels relief through a coordinated network of branches and stakeholders.
It has consistently addressed the needs of communities struck by crises, reaffirming the bank’s dedication to social responsibility, according to the bank.
Representing the bank, Dr Meksley Nwagboh, Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, said the outreach was a demonstration of solidarity with Mokwa residents.
He described the donation as a reaffirmation of Fidelity’s pledge to stand by Nigerian communities in their moments of greatest need.
Government presence relayed the gravity of the flood’s impact, with Niger State’s First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago, leading the delegation at the distribution event.
She was joined by key state officials including Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman Gawu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Gbatamangi; and the Deputy Chief of Staff, Alhaji Yusuf Sadiq. Commissioners and representatives from ministries of Budget & Planning, Education, Humanitarian Affairs, and Information were also in attendance, alongside ALGON and various Local Government Chairmen.
The bank describes this latest intervention as adding to its ongoing emergency relief efforts.
The bank said it had previously provided food and sanitary supplies to victims of a fire outbreak in Taraba State and delivered aid to those affected by the collapse of Zaria Central Mosque in 2023.
