FRESH EVIDENCE on how sugar sweetened beverage brands, salty and sodium product manufacturers, and ultra processed food companies target vulnerable populations in Nigeria is set to be unveiled ed at a press briefing organised by Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA).
JKNewsMedia.com reports CAPPA stated that its latest monitoring documents reveal how festive promotions and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities are strategically used to market unhealthy products under the guise of community support.
The organisation said the findings focus on tactics employed during high consumption festive periods and show how these strategies are directed at vulnerable groups.
Also, CAPPA noted that Nigeria is intensifying efforts to regulate unhealthy food environments and combat the excessive consumption of sugar, salt and ultra processed foods, which it identified as key drivers of the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) crisis.
It also said it is crucial for the media, policymakers and the public to understand these industry practices, adding that the briefing will provide clear visibility into the marketing approaches.
In a statement signed by Sarah Ekwale, CAPPA said it looked forward to participation in what it described as a critical public health discourse.
It also added that the event will expose what it described as the gap between industry narratives of generosity and how the marketing strategies contribute to NCD issues across Nigeria.
CAPPA further added that its transparency would strengthen public health advocacy, empower communities to demand accountability, build momentum for evidence-based nutrition policies, and support the long-term success of Nigeria’s health protection agenda.
It then scheduled the press briefing for Wednesday, 4 February 2026 at 9.00am at its Lagos office located at 1A Adekunle Owobiyi Close, Off Oladele Kadiri Close, Ogba, Lagos State; urging media invitees to confirm attendance by Monday, 2 February 2026 by replying to the email or contacting Robert Egbe on +234 803 435 4127.
