OGUN STATE Governor Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, urged Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, to expand its partnerships with research institutions, particularly in areas supporting the state’s initiative on mechanized agriculture and agro-industrial development.

He made the call during the institution’s 16th convocation ceremony, delivered by his deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

Governor Abiodun also emphasised the growing need for skilled educators and extension officers to assist in the state’s agricultural transformation, noting that TASUED is well-positioned to address this demand.

He further commended the university for its pioneering achievement, announcing a donation of N2.5 million to 85-year-old Bolaji Onafowokan, the institution’s oldest PhD graduate, who completed his doctorate in Educational Media and Technology.

The Governor also praised the university’s leadership for its contributions to education and societal progress, highlighting TASUED’s 100% programme accreditation and its expansion into pure sciences, arts, and social sciences.

He encouraged the institution to continue producing innovative graduates who can tackle the pressing issues facing society.

Abiodun detailed his administration’s investment in education, including a groundbreaking digital platform that has revolutionised school administration and attracted interest from other states.

He also reiterated his commitment to infrastructure development, teacher training, and student welfare.

At the convocation, Pro-Chancellor Prof. Rahamon Adisa Bello stressed the importance of applying classroom knowledge to overcome future challenges, while Vice-Chancellor Prof. Oluwole Banjo outlined the university’s achievements, including the installation of an Independent Power Project and the expansion of student facilities.

In a keynote address, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, called for the integration of technology into Nigeria’s education system, stating that the country’s youth must harness technological tools to drive national development.

The best graduating student, Abdulateef Adedamola Adedeji, who graduated with a 4.91 CGPA, expressed gratitude to the Governor for prioritising education in Ogun State and encouraged his peers to embrace the challenges ahead. Cash awards were presented to the best students in each department.
