CANDIDATES SEEKING university admission in Nigeria with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scores between 140 and 180 can now apply for a wide selection of courses across science, arts, and commercial disciplines.
This follows the decision by the to approve 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for universities for the 2025 academic session.
The announcement was made at JAMB’s annual policy meeting on admissions held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The board also set the cut-off mark for colleges of nursing at 140, while colleges of education and colleges of agriculture are to accept candidates with scores from 100 and above.
JAMB clarified that there is no uniform UTME cut-off applicable to all institutions.
Universities, polytechnics, and colleges retain the right to set higher admission requirements, provided these do not fall below the national minimum.
Candidates within the 140–180 score range are eligible to apply for the following courses:
Science Courses:
– Fisheries
– Agricultural Science
– Home Science and Nutrition
– Animal Science
– Botany
– Anatomy
– Marine Biology
– Zoology
– Science Laboratory Technology
Art Courses:
– Arabic Studies
– Archaeology
– Christian Religious Studies
– Fine Arts
– Drama and Performing Arts
– Theatre Arts
– English Language
– French
– History and International Studies
– Music
Commercial Courses:
– Business Administration
– Public Administration
– Marketing
– Insurance
– Taxation
– Criminology and Security Studies
– Library and Information Science
– Hospitality and Tourism
– Political Science
– Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution
However, JAMB says respective institutions are allowed to adopt higher cut-off points for specific programmes depending on their internal policies.
Meanwhile, the listed courses remain available to candidates within the stated score range, subject to final approval by individual institutions.
