N4.44 TRILLION 2026 Appropriation Bill has been signed into law by the Lagos State Government (LASG), described as a Budget of Shared Prosperity to drive inclusive growth and improve living standards for residents.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed the bill on Monday at Lagos House, with the ceremony attended by Deputy Governor Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly led by Majority Leader Hon Nojim Adams.

The governor commended the Assembly for thorough scrutiny and independent legislative oversight, which led to a marginal increase in the budget size.

He said the adjustment reflected lawmakers’ confidence in the state’s capacity to deliver more for residents despite economic challenges.

Sanwo-Olu said the 2026 Budget is structured to ensure no resident or sector is left behind, with investments planned for roads, schools, healthcare facilities, security, housing and key economic interventions.

He also described the budget as a renewed opportunity for the executive arm to deepen governance, assuring prosperity through infrastructure development, enhanced social services, job creation and improved security of lives and property.

State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget Mr Ope George explained that the proposal, initially pegged at N4.2 trillion, was reviewed upward to N4.4 trillion following engagements between the legislature and Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

He said the expenditure framework comprises N2.3 trillion for capital expenditure, representing 53 per cent of the total, and N2.1 trillion for recurrent expenditure, accounting for 47 percent.

George highlighted priority sectors for 2026 as transportation, agriculture, infrastructure renewal, health, education, environmental sustainability, housing, public safety and social protection.

He noted that the 81 percent performance level recorded for the 2025 Budget as of September 30 provides a strong foundation for implementing the 2026 Budget.

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Hon Mudashiru Obasa, represented by Majority Leader Hon Bello, praised Governor Sanwo-Olu and his cabinet for their commitment to the THEMES Plus agenda.

JKNewsMedia.com also notes that the Speaker reaffirmed the Assembly’s readiness to work with the administration to achieve a greater Lagos and strengthen the state’s reputation as a model of good governance.
