THE LAGOS State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office, setting the stage for his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was announced during the party’s stakeholders’ forum held at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday, 21 October 2025.
According to the party, the decision reflected a collective affirmation of support for the president’s leadership and the continuation of his administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The motion for the endorsement was moved by the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotunbi, and seconded by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Both leaders emphasised the need for political stability and continuity, describing Tinubu as a visionary whose leadership had laid a solid foundation for national transformation.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while addressing the gathering, stated that President Tinubu’s first term had demonstrated purposeful governance, economic reforms, and infrastructural renewal that justified his endorsement for another term.
The governor maintained that the meeting underscored the unity and shared commitment of Lagos APC members to sustain the president’s reform policies.
Sanwo-Olu said the endorsement symbolised the collective belief that Tinubu’s leadership had repositioned Nigeria on the path of progress.
He reiterated that Lagos, being the political base of the president, would continue to play a leading role in ensuring the continuity of national development efforts under the APC-led administration.
The Lagos governor noted that Tinubu’s approach to governance remained people-oriented, citing his administration’s focus on fiscal discipline, infrastructural expansion, and social welfare programmes designed to stabilise the economy.
He described the president as a proven leader with decades of public service experience and a record of reform-driven governance, adding that such qualities positioned him as the right candidate to lead Nigeria beyond 2027.
Sanwo-Olu stated that the stakeholders’ forum was not just a political declaration but a reaffirmation of the Lagos APC’s belief in the president’s ability to complete his developmental agenda.
He also lauded Tinubu’s administration for the economic reforms undertaken since 2023, which, according to him, had begun to yield tangible results.
The governor noted that the removal of fuel subsidy and the harmonisation of the foreign exchange system were tough but necessary decisions that laid the groundwork for long-term stability.
He said the reforms had strengthened fiscal transparency, reduced inflationary pressure, and boosted oil output to over 1.68 million barrels per day as of September 2025.
Earlier in the week, hundreds of All Progressives Congress supporters held a rally in Ikeja, Lagos, on 18 October 2025, demanding President Tinubu’s re-election and encouraging citizens to register for the forthcoming elections.
Organisers of the rally highlighted the administration’s economic reforms as reasons for renewed public confidence in the government.
Participants carried banners displaying messages of solidarity and renewal, emphasising that the president’s policies were gradually reshaping Nigeria’s economic direction.
According to the organisers, the rally was aimed at mobilising support for voter registration and civic participation ahead of the 2027 polls.
However, the event attracted online criticism from some users who questioned the motives behind the mobilisation, alleging that the rally participants were sponsored.
The organisers dismissed the allegations, maintaining that the event was purely voluntary and intended to raise awareness about voter education.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier issued reminders to political parties, urging them to comply with regulations against premature campaigning.
The commission reiterated that while parties were allowed to hold internal meetings and policy discussions, public campaigns for candidates before the official election timetable remained prohibited.
During the stakeholders’ meeting at Eko Hotel, the party leadership reaffirmed its commitment to abiding by electoral guidelines while consolidating internal unity in preparation for the forthcoming polls.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the endorsement as a clear message that Lagos would stand firmly with the president.
He said the party’s decision demonstrated confidence in Tinubu’s leadership vision and acknowledged the progress made under his administration’s “Renewed Hope” policy framework.
According to the Lagos State APC, the forum’s outcome reflected the general sentiment among members that Tinubu’s reforms in energy, transportation, and fiscal management had begun to stabilise key sectors of the economy.
The governor further highlighted Lagos State’s ongoing collaboration with the Federal Government on infrastructure and technology-driven initiatives aimed at improving urban mobility and economic productivity.
He noted that such synergy between state and federal authorities illustrated the effectiveness of policy alignment under the APC government.
The party leadership expressed gratitude to the president for prioritising Lagos in key national development programmes, including transportation modernisation, housing delivery, and renewable energy projects.
Members of the Governance Advisory Council, ministers, National Assembly members, members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Lagos State Executive Council, and all 57 local council chairmen were present at the event.
They collectively pledged their continued support for the president’s vision to sustain reforms that promote economic resilience and inclusive growth.
In his closing remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged party members to remain united and focused on strengthening public confidence in the APC’s governance.
He called for grassroots mobilisation and civic education across all local government areas, noting that voter engagement remained essential to democratic consolidation.
The governor also commended President Tinubu’s commitment to national security and his administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional cooperation in tackling cross-border crime and economic sabotage.
He said the Lagos APC’s endorsement represented not just political loyalty but recognition of the president’s achievements in steering the country through economic transition and fiscal restructuring.
The party leadership maintained that President Tinubu’s first term had recorded measurable progress in fiscal reforms, infrastructural renewal, and public sector digitisation, setting the tone for a more transparent governance system.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the president’s reformist stance had redefined fiscal management and strengthened investor confidence in the Nigerian economy, citing renewed interest from both domestic and international investors in energy, transport, and technology sectors.
He assured that Lagos would continue to align with national reform objectives, especially in areas of economic diversification, employment generation, and digital innovation.
The Lagos State APC reaffirmed that its decision was unanimous and rooted in the president’s consistent leadership philosophy of inclusiveness, competence, and results-oriented governance.
The forum concluded with a formal adoption of the endorsement motion and a pledge of loyalty to the president’s vision of building a resilient and prosperous nation.
