LAGOS BUSINESS School (LBS) is charting a bold course towards its future with the appointment of Professor Olayinka David-West as its fifth Dean.

The management notes that her vision prioritises academic innovation, entrepreneurial leadership, and social impact, ensuring the LBS continues its role as a transformative force for Africa.

A faculty member for over 18 years, Professor David-West has been instrumental in leading key programmes and initiatives that have positioned LBS as a premier business institution in Africa.

Her appointment also reflects a commitment to both continuity and progress, promising to expand on the foundational successes established by her predecessors.

In her first address as Dean, Professor David-West emphasised the significance of collaboration among alumni, partners, and stakeholders to elevate the School’s legacy.

She introduced a strategic roadmap for the future, focusing on four pillars: academic excellence, innovation and entrepreneurship, global partnerships, and social impact.

Under her leadership, LBS will launch its MSc in Management programme in January 2025, designed to address evolving business challenges and prepare students for leadership roles in an increasingly complex world.

She also pledged to strengthen the institution’s global partnerships, citing ongoing collaborations like the National Cassava Investment Accelerator with Nigeria’s Federal Government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Beyond academics, LBS will deepen its social impact initiatives, such as Project Ivy, which provides scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Professor David-West reaffirmed the school’s mission to transform lives and foster responsible leadership that drives sustainable development across the continent.

Professor David-West, a seasoned scholar, holds degrees in Computer Science from the University of Lagos, Business Systems and Analysis Design from City University, London, and a PhD in Business Administration from Alliance Manchester Business School.

Her expertise and passion for education, combined with a forward-thinking approach, position her to lead LBS into a new era of excellence.

Her call to action resonates deeply: “Our shared journey has been remarkable, but the path ahead holds even greater promise.

Together, we can shape a brighter future for Africa where excellence becomes the standard, innovation flourishes, and leadership drives transformative change.”
